In short: Delvework is 24 fantasy dungeon and cave battle maps for $2, each 30 × 40 squares, in a GM PDF with numbered rooms and a player edition for virtual tabletops: gridded and gridless images at 70 px per square plus .dd2vtt files with walls and doors. It works in Foundry VTT, Roll20, Owlbear Rodeo and other VTTs, and with any fantasy RPG.

Need a dungeon tonight? Delvework gives you 24 ready-to-run maps (16 dungeons and 8 caverns), each 30 × 40 squares, in two matching editions: a GM copy with numbered rooms and secret doors marked, and a player copy for your virtual tabletop where secret doors look like dead ends. That's under 10 cents a map.

Try before you buy: Delvework Sampler has 3 of the maps free, in both editions, so you can test the import in your own tabletop first.

GM edition (PDF)

  • Every room and area is numbered, so you can key it with your own monsters and treasure
  • Doors, locked doors and secret doors are marked
  • Stairs up and down, pillars, pools, wells, statues, altars, sarcophagi, chests and rubble
  • Classic black-and-white style with hatched walls, one map per page (US Letter, fits A4), plus a legend and contents page

Virtual tabletop edition

  • Full-colour textured maps at 70 px per square (2100 × 2800), gridded and gridless
  • Player-safe: no room numbers, and each secret door is drawn as a stone slab across its passage, so players see a dead end
  • .dd2vtt files (the Universal VTT format) with walls and doors already placed for line of sight and dynamic lighting. Import them with your tabletop's Universal VTT importer. Each secret door is stored as a wall along its slab: when your players find it, turn that wall into a door (or delete it). Cavern walls are traced along the drawn rock edge.
  • Six looks: grey stone, cold crypt, sandstone, mossy ruins, earthen caves and frost caves

The maps

The Weeping Crypt · The Salt Keep · The Gloam Ossuary · The Broken Catacomb · The Pale Undercroft · The Thorn Warrens · The Cinder Sanctum · The Iron Barracks · The Hollow Vault · The Silent Bastion · The Moth Cellars · The Rust Halls · The Sunken Crypt · The Lantern Keep · The Drowned Ossuary · The Ashen Catacomb · The Broken Chasm · The Hollow Deeps · The Lantern Rift · The Gloam Burrows · The Iron Caverns · The Sunken Grotto · The Salt Mines · The Cinder Hollows

System-neutral

No stats or rules, so the maps work with any fantasy RPG at 5 ft or 10 ft squares. Rooms are numbered but not described, which leaves the story to you.

Honest notes

  • The maps are procedurally generated (partitioned rooms and corridors, and cellular caverns), then rendered with procedural textures. They're clean, practical layouts, not hand-painted illustration.
  • The PDF prints at a small scale (about ¼ inch per square). For miniatures, print the gridless images with poster/tile printing at 1 inch per square.
  • The walls and doors in every .dd2vtt file were checked by running the Universal Battlemap Importer's own import code on them: no errors, and no gaps in any wall.

License

Use the maps in your own games, in person or online. You may also use them inside adventures or games you publish or stream, as part of your work. Please don't resell or redistribute the map files themselves.

Before the dungeon, the inn: Rafters & Cellars has 8 inns and taverns in the same VTT-ready format, three floors each, every room keyed. The Merry Goose is free.

Questions

Does it work with Foundry VTT?
Yes. Import the .dd2vtt files with a Universal VTT importer module (such as Universal Battlemap Importer) and the walls and doors come in with the map. Every file was checked with that importer's own code.

Does it work with Roll20 or Owlbear Rodeo?
Yes. Use the gridless or gridded images. They're 70 px per square, Roll20's default grid size, so they line up without resizing.

Which game systems?
Any fantasy RPG, including 5e and OSR games. The maps have no stats, just numbered rooms you key yourself.

Can players see the secret doors?
No. In the player edition each secret door looks like a dead end. The GM PDF marks them.

Can I print them for miniatures?
Yes. Print the gridless images with poster or tile printing at 1 inch per square.

Can I try it first?
Yes. Delvework Sampler has 3 of the maps free.

More from Cabin Circuit: Roadside & Rafters (58 random tables for inns, roads and villages, with a free demo roller).
